UK African Community Mourns Dr. Fortune Gomo’s Murder, Demands Justice in Dundee

At approximately 4:25 p.m. on July 5, 2025, tragedy struck the African community in Scotland, UK when Dr. Fortune Gomo, a distinguished PhD scholar who recently earned her doctorate from the University of Dundee, was brutally murdered on South Road, Dundee.

The devastating incident occurred as Dr. Gomo, believed to be in her 30s, walked alongside her 10-year-old daughter.

Despite the swift response of paramedics, the accomplished academic was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving behind a grieving community and a child who witnessed the horrific attack.

Dr. Gomo was celebrated as a rising star, her scholarly work a testament to her dedication to advancing knowledge and uplifting her community.

Her senseless killing has ignited profound sorrow and anger among the African diaspora in the UK, who are now rallying for justice and accountability.

Police Scotland confirmed the arrest of a 20-year-old man in connection with the stabbing, yet the initial silence from authorities and media has fueled widespread frustration.

In viral footage shared online, members of Dundee’s Black and African community poured out their grief and outrage.

“You can take my picture or record me—I don’t care,” one woman declared tearfully to a police officer.

“I’m speaking boldly because I don’t mind. This is about that innocent woman who was murdered, someone who was going to support the Dundee community. She was a doctor, just graduated with a PhD from Dundee University. She had so much to offer.”

Another community member voiced their dismay: “It’s past 10 p.m., and still no statement from the police. If the roles were reversed, this would be on every front page by now.”

Detective Superintendent Peter Sharp, leading the investigation, issued a statement acknowledging the tragedy: “My thoughts are with the woman’s family at this time… I am satisfied that the incident has been contained and there is no wider risk to the public.”

He urged anyone with information to contact Police Scotland, quoting incident number 2283 of July 5, 2025, or Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111.

For many in the African community, however, this response feels inadequate.

They are demanding updates on the wellbeing of Dr. Gomo’s daughter, who endured unimaginable trauma, and the public identification of the suspect, as is standard in high-profile cases.

The murder has sparked a broader conversation about systemic challenges, particularly racial inequality in Scotland’s justice system and media representation.

Community leaders and residents have criticized what they perceive as police lethargy and media silence, noting that cases involving Black victims often receive less attention.

“The media should be talking to us, listening to us, and sharing our story, but they don’t hear us,” one woman lamented in the viral footage.

Dr. Gomo’s death is a profound loss to the academic and African communities, where her scholarly achievements inspired pride and hope.

Her contributions as a PhD doctor underscored her commitment to knowledge and community upliftment, resonating deeply with readers of Fellow Nurses Africa, who value education and service.

Protests are expected in the coming days as the community demands justice for Dr. Gomo and systemic change to address racial disparities.

As the African community in the UK mourns, they remain united in their call for accountability, transparency, and protection for their members.

Dr. Fortune Gomo’s legacy as a brilliant scholar will endure, and her community is determined to ensure her story is heard, her contributions remembered, and her justice served.
