Tragedy: Nigerian Nurse Loses Life to ‘One Chance’ Operators in Abuja

Abuja, Nigeria – January 4, 2026 – In a heartbreaking incident that has sent shockwaves through the nursing community, Nurse Chinemerem Pascalina Chuwumeziem, a devoted professional at the VIP wing of the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Abuja, has passed away under tragic circumstances. The sad event occurred on January 3, 2026, shortly after she closed from her afternoon duty and was heading home.

Speaking to our correspondent, colleagues at FMC Abuja expressed profound grief and total submission to God Almighty over the loss. “With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of our dear colleague, Nurse Chinemerem Pascalina Chuwumeziem,” said a fellow nurse who wished to remain anonymous. “She was a brilliant and beautiful soul who served humanity till her last day on earth, but she was failed by an evil set of humans with distorted minds. Rest in peace, our dedicated colleague. FMC Abuja Nurses mourn Nr. Chinemerem deeply.”

According to sources close to the matter, Nurse Chinemerem was a victim of the notorious ‘one chance’ operators – criminal gangs known for luring unsuspecting passengers into vehicles for robbery and worse. “We lost her to these wicked operators in Abuja after she closed from work and headed home,” a colleague shared tearfully with our reporter. “She closed from afternoon duty yesterday and didn’t reach home. Her lifeless body was recovered by the roadside this morning and is now at the FMC Jabi mortuary.”

The nursing fraternity in Abuja and beyond is reeling from this loss, highlighting the growing dangers faced by healthcare workers commuting in the city. Fellow Nurses Africa calls on authorities to intensify efforts against such criminal activities to protect essential workers like Nurse Chinemerem, who gave her all to patient care.

Investigations are ongoing, and more details will be provided as they emerge. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.
