Lagos, 23 February 2026
It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts that Fellow Nurses Africa confirms the tragic loss of six final-year female students from the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) Bachelor of Nursing Science programme at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso.
The students, all in their 500 level, perished in a devastating road traffic accident while travelling to the university’s main campus in Ogbomoso to sit for their semester examinations. Their dedication to advancing their education while balancing professional nursing responsibilities and personal commitments exemplifies the resilience and commitment that define our profession.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the mortuary, and we await further official updates, including the release of their names, from LAUTECH management, the Oyo State Police Command, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), or other relevant authorities.
No official confirmation has yet been issued by the university or pertinent agencies regarding the circumstances of the incident. Fellow Nurses Africa continues to monitor developments closely and will provide verified information as it becomes available.
This heartbreaking event once again underscores the persistent dangers posed by Nigeria’s road infrastructure, a public health challenge that claims far too many lives each year, including those of dedicated students and healthcare professionals.
We extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends, colleagues, and the entire LAUTECH ODL Nursing community during this period of immense grief. May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace, and may their loved ones find strength and solace in the days ahead.
Fellow Nurses Africa remains committed to honouring their memory through continued advocacy for improved road safety and support for nursing education in Nigeria.
We are awaiting further updates and will share them promptly through our official channels.
