Nigerian national Oluwabunmi Adeliyi, 30, has been sentenced for fraud after slipping into secure mental health facilities to work shifts without any qualifications.

She used false identification in the name of Bisola Elizabeth Oladipupo.

Adeliyi carried out four shifts at Caswell Clinic in Bridgend and Neath Port Talbot Hospital in Baglan in 2023.

Patients at the units have complex mental health issues.

Many are detained under the Mental Health Act after criminal acts.

Adeliyi had no training in mental health care.

She slipped into the roles undetected at first.

During shifts, she showed unusual behaviour.

She did not know how to wear the required belt.

She locked fire doors, creating serious risks.

She left her phone out despite restrictions.

She had access to observation notes and confidential patient information.

She wrote entries in observation records.

Adeliyi was paid £1,739.

The fraud was discovered when a receptionist noticed a passport photo pasted over the original ID.

Adeliyi refused to hand over the document.

The matter was escalated.

CCTV and phone evidence confirmed the four shifts.

Adeliyi initially denied everything in interview.

She later made full admissions.

She pleaded guilty to four counts of fraud by false representation.

She has no previous convictions.

The court heard she came to the UK from Nigeria in 2022.

She felt indebted to the person who helped her arrival.

She is pregnant and the primary carer for her daughter.

She has a job in customer services.

Adeliyi was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment, suspended for two years.

She must complete 100 hours unpaid work and a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

The real Bisola Elizabeth Oladipupo has reportedly left the UK.
