Nneoma Regina Ekeodu Okeke (née Chukwu), a veteran nurse who served during the Nigerian Civil War, has died at the age of 88.

She passed away peacefully.

Her burial is scheduled for 28 January 2026 at her country home in Umuogbulafor-Uzoakwa, Ihiala Local Government Area.

Born in April 1937, she attended Holy Rosary School in Port Harcourt.

She travelled to London in the 1960s to train in nursing and midwifery at Huntington and Whittington Hospitals.

On return to Nigeria, she worked as a Nursing Sister during the civil war, providing care in emergency conditions.

She later joined the pharmaceutical industry at Brian Munro Limited.

She rose to the position of Area Manager before retirement.

Okeke was active in church and community life in Ihiala.

She was a devout Roman Catholic.

She received the title “Nneoma” from St. Martin of Tours Parish, Ihiala.

She also received “Kpakpando Okwukwe” from the Catholic Men’s Organization.

She was a member of Women of Divine Love and Ihiala Progress Union.

Family member Mr. Chuka Okeke said her life was defined by service, discipline and faith.

She is survived by six children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
