Institution responds to public concerns after admission announcement sparks questions about its regulatory status
By Fellow Nurses Africa News Desk
The accreditation status of Felix Adejumo College of Nursing Sciences has come under public scrutiny following the institution’s recent announcement that admissions are ongoing for the 2026/2027 academic session.
Questions emerged after some prospective students and stakeholders reported that the institution’s name was not visible on the publicly available list of approved nursing schools on the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) portal.
The development triggered concerns about whether the college had received the necessary regulatory approval to admit and train nursing students.
To establish the facts, Fellow Nurses Africa contacted the institution and requested official clarification regarding its accreditation status.

Based on the official document reviewed by Fellow Nurses Africa, Felix Adejumo College of Nursing Sciences has received regulatory approval from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria to begin nursing education activities.
Why Is the School Not Yet on the NMCN Portal?
The absence of the institution’s name from the NMCN public portal was one of the primary reasons concerns were raised.
Addressing this issue, the college stated that its approval was granted in March 2026 and that the Council is yet to publish the updated list of approved nursing institutions for the year.
In a statement sent to Fellow Nurses Africa, the institution said:
“Our institution’s name is not yet reflected because the Council is yet to update the 2026 list of approved schools. We received approval in March 2026, and the portal update is pending the release of the new list.”
The college expressed confidence that its name will appear once the Council completes the next update of its public records.
Understanding Provisional Accreditation
For many prospective students, the term “provisional accreditation” may raise questions.
In nursing education, provisional accreditation is a recognised regulatory status granted to institutions that have met the requirements necessary to commence training while remaining subject to ongoing monitoring and evaluation by the regulatory authority.
It is an official approval status issued by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and permits institutions to admit students and begin academic activities within approved limits.
However, provisional accreditation is distinct from full accreditation, which is typically granted after further regulatory assessments and evidence of continued compliance with required standards.
The approval letter provided to Fellow Nurses Africa specifically states that Felix Adejumo College of Nursing Sciences was granted Provisional Accreditation Status.
What Does This Mean for Prospective Students?
The evidence reviewed by Fellow Nurses Africa indicates that the institution has received formal approval from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria to commence training.
For prospective applicants, this means the college is operating with regulatory approval under provisional accreditation.
Nevertheless, education experts advise students to carry out due diligence before enrolling in any institution. This includes reviewing official accreditation documents, monitoring updates from regulatory bodies, and seeking clarification where necessary.
Prospective students should also continue to monitor announcements from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria regarding updates to its official register of approved institutions.
