Nigerian Nurse Leader Sherifat Ukachukwu Bags Outstanding African Healthcare Leader Award in Ireland

DUBLIN, Ireland — Nigerian nurse leader Sherifat Ukachukwu has been honoured with the Outstanding African Healthcare Leader Award at the African Healthcare Awards Gala, a highlight of the African Health Summit Ireland 2026, in recognition of her leadership, innovation and contributions to healthcare education.
The award was presented during the summit, held on 10 July 2026 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Blanchardstown, where healthcare professionals, researchers, educators, policymakers and innovators from across Africa and Europe gathered to explore solutions to some of the world’s most pressing healthcare challenges. The summit was hosted under the theme, “Leading the Future of Healthcare Across Borders: Innovation, Workforce & Equity.”
Ukachukwu, a Nigerian-born nurse and Clinical Skills Learning Coordinator at the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), received the award for demonstrating exceptional leadership, professional excellence and a sustained commitment to advancing healthcare through education, innovation and cross-border collaboration.

Her recognition comes at a time when healthcare systems worldwide continue to grapple with workforce shortages, widening health inequalities and the growing need for stronger international partnerships. Throughout the summit, speakers repeatedly emphasised that collaboration, innovation and leadership will be central to building resilient healthcare systems capable of meeting future global health challenges.
Beyond receiving the award, Ukachukwu played a leading role in shaping discussions at the summit. She served as Lead Facilitator for the interactive World Café session, one of the event’s flagship engagements, where healthcare professionals from diverse disciplines examined practical solutions to workforce sustainability, healthcare leadership, digital innovation, equitable access to care and international collaboration.
According to the Technological University of the Shannon, Ukachukwu created an environment that encouraged open dialogue, shared learning and collaborative problem-solving among delegates from different healthcare backgrounds.
