The Elegant Nurses Forum has condemned several Colleges of Health Technology in Kwara State for offering unapproved Community Health Nursing and Public Health Nursing programs.
The forum said these courses violate directives from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
NMCN rules state that such programs can only be run by accredited Colleges of Nursing or universities.
Any institution outside this approval is operating illegally.
The forum accused the schools of extorting parents, deceiving students and misleading the public.
It called the practice promotion of quackery in plain sight.
Graduates from these programs risk having certificates rejected.
Patients could receive care from poorly trained personnel.
One example cited is the Florence Adepate Love Foundation.
It advertised 50 % scholarships for the banned programs.
The forum demanded urgent intervention from Kwara State Commissioner for Education Mrs Sa’adatu Modibo K.
It called for a probe into how some institutions obtained approval from the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Technology.
The group wants immediate closure of illegal programs, public clarification on approved centres, sanctions for involved officials and refunds for affected students and parents.
It urged strict enforcement of NMCN guidelines to prevent recurrence.
The forum said the situation puts citizens’ lives at risk if left unchecked.
