Intern doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) have been assaulted by relatives of a deceased patient.

The incident occurred around 1:20 a.m. on Thursday.

The patient, Nazma Begum, died in the Medicine Department.

Relatives allegedly beat four intern doctors: Dr Touhid, Dr Rahat, Dr Bappi and Dr Naim.

The injured doctors are receiving treatment at the hospital’s emergency department.

In protest, intern doctors have suspended medical services at the emergency department and several wards.

They have locked the hospital gates.

Services will remain suspended until the hospital director arrives.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police have been deployed to maintain order.

Two people have been detained and handed over to Shahbagh Police Station.

Intern doctor Shihab said the attack followed the patient’s death.

Tension remains on the hospital premises.

Attempts to contact hospital director Brigadier General Md Asaduzzaman were unsuccessful.
