Last Saturday (November 29), over 300 student nurses packed the Old Great Hall at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos for the Nursiscope Career Summit 2025.

The theme? “Ready, Set, Launch: Navigating Life and Career After Nursing School”.

Organised by Nursiscope in partnership with NUNSA UNILAG, the event turned confusion into clarity.

Students who came worried about “what next?” left with a clear plan, new friends, and real fire in their hearts.

Here are the 5 biggest takeaways everyone is talking about:

Choose Your Path with Purpose – Nurse Peter Alabi

“Many nurses pick careers because of pressure, not purpose.”

He gave a simple checklist:

  • Know your strengths
  • Know what drains you
  • Know your values
  • Know the skills you need
  • Stay updated on new opportunities

His golden line:

“You cannot find yourself in a place unless you are helped, held, or carried.”

(Build your network now!)

Reinvent Yourself Again and Again – Nurse Sarah Oluwasola

“Nursing is not a fence, it’s a foundation. Build as high as you can!”

She taught the “Reinvention Cycle”:

  • Work on your identity
  • Improve your image
  • Read daily
  • Take free online courses
  • Manage your time

Two quotes students wrote down:

“Believe you can. If you don’t believe, you won’t start.”

“If you start without believing, you will soon stop.”

Start Preparing for Global Jobs TODAY – Dr. Oluwadamilare Akingbade

“Global nursing careers don’t find you – you prepare for them.”

He shared:

  • Build competence now
  • Get certifications early
  • Think globally from year one
  • Read his new book Charting New Territories

Best quote of the day:

🌍 “A global nursing career begins the moment you decide to prepare for opportunities you haven’t seen yet.”

The Power of Connection

Students say the real magic happened during breaks.

They met coursemates from other schools, exchanged WhatsApp numbers, and made friends who will help them land jobs later.

You Left Different

One attendee said:

“I almost skipped it. My friend dragged me. Best decision ever. I now know exactly what to do after school.”

The summit was FREE, packed with free snacks, photos, and pure inspiration.

Missed it? Don’t worry – the next one is already being planned!
