Ghana Rotation Nurses and Midwives Issue Ultimatum: Pay Delayed Allowances or Face Nationwide Demonstration

The 2024/2025 batch of rotation nurses and midwives in Ghana have had enough.

After months of working in hospitals without receiving a single pesewas of their rightful rotation allowances, they have issued a clear ultimatum to the Ministry of Health: settle all outstanding allowances by 30 November 2025, or we march nationwide.

In a fiery press statement released today, Tuesday 18 November 2025, the group said they are tired of empty promises and endless delays.

What Really Happened?

  • On 13 October 2025, Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh publicly promised that clearance for over 17,000 rotational health workers would be completed and payments would start in November.
  • Today, with only 12 days left in the month, nothing has been done.
  • Nurses and midwives continue to show up for duty, pay transport, feed themselves, and care for patients — all on empty pockets.

Their Three Simple Demands

  1. Immediate full payment of 2024/2025 rotation allowances
  2. Fast-track clearance and payment for junior colleagues
  3. Stop the culture of making health workers serve for free

What Happens if the Ministry Ignores Them?

They have promised a peaceful nationwide demonstration and will picket directly at the Ministry of Health headquarters until every cedi is paid.

“We have been patient for too long. If the Ministry fails to act by 30 November, we will have no choice but to take to the streets and demand what is rightfully ours,” the statement reads.

They have also called on parents, the media, and all Ghanaians to stand with them in this fight for fairness and respect.

This is not just about money — it’s about dignity for the very people who keep our hospitals running every single day.ignals growing impatience among the very nurses and midwives keeping the country’s hospitals running.
