Dame Marie Gabriel, Chair of NHS North East London, welcomed the appointment:

“We will benefit from Nnenna’s insight, strategic approach, and her overriding commitment to tackling inequalities… she brings compassion and openness at a time of great change.”

Speaking on her new role, Dr Osuji said:

“I am excited and proud to lead NHS North East London… My priority is ensuring our staff are supported through a period of change so we can continue providing local people with safe, quality and compassionate care.”

The appointment has been hailed as another milestone for African and diaspora nursing and medical professionals in UK healthcare leadership.

Dr Osuji succeeds Zina Etheridge, the founding CEO, who served for four years. Her exact start date will be confirmed soon.

Fellow Nurses Africa proudly celebrates Dr Nnenna Osuji – a practising clinician, educator, and now one of the most senior Black leaders in the NHS.
