Makinde Pledges Better Welfare for LAUTECH Health Workers, Promises Major Projects in Ogbomoso

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has assured health workers at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, of improved welfare and a stronger support system, while unveiling ambitious infrastructural plans for the region.

During a working visit to the hospital, Makinde acknowledged years of neglect at the facility but promised urgent interventions to restore efficiency and boost staff morale. He emphasized that his administration is determined to reposition LAUTECH as a leading healthcare institution in Nigeria.

Governing Council to Be Constituted

One of the major steps announced was the constitution of a Governing Council for LAUTECH Teaching Hospital. Makinde said the Council, which will be in place before the end of the week, will help resolve critical challenges facing the hospital and improve its management structure.

Welfare Boost for Health Workers

The governor also addressed long-standing welfare concerns. He announced that 65 non-staff security personnel serving the hospital will now receive a monthly stipend of ₦80,000 and be absorbed into the system as ad hoc staff.

In addition, Makinde pledged to increase the monthly subvention to the hospital, ensuring workers have the tools and environment needed for effective service delivery. He further revealed that staff promotion arrears from 2018 to 2024 will be paid in three instalments between October and December 2025. Similarly, arrears of the national minimum wage from January to August 2025 will also be cleared within the same period.

Expansion of Healthcare Access

Makinde reaffirmed his commitment to completing the ongoing LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Annexe in Oyo before the end of his tenure. The new facility will expand healthcare access across the state and ease the burden on the Ogbomoso hospital, which currently serves a large patient population.

Broader Development in Ogbomoso

Beyond health sector reforms, the governor also pledged infrastructural upgrades in Ogbomoso. He promised that rehabilitation of feeder roads would begin within six weeks, a move expected to improve intra-city transportation, market access, and stimulate economic activity. He added that similar road projects will be extended to Oyo Zone before the end of his administration.

Symbolic Engagement with Traditional Leaders

Makinde also paid a courtesy visit to the Soun of Ogbomoso, His Imperial Majesty Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III, expressing gratitude for the monarch’s support and reaffirming his administration’s respect for traditional institutions.

A Balanced Approach to Progress

The visit highlighted Makinde’s dual strategy of prioritizing workers’ welfare while driving infrastructural growth. By tackling health sector challenges and broader community development needs, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s vision of inclusive progress across Oyo State.
