In the heart of London’s bustling streets, where iconic red double-decker buses weave the city’s vibrant tapestry, stands a beacon of grace and resilience: Bemi Orojuogun. As an African nursing organization dedicated to celebrating the profound contributions of nurses from our continent, we are deeply inspired by Bemi’s story—a radiant testament to the compassion, humanity, and transformative spirit that define our profession.

This 56-year-old UK-based Nigerian nurse, a mental health specialist, has not only devoted over three decades to healing minds but has also captured the world’s heart as the beloved “Bus Aunty,” turning everyday commutes into powerful symbols of joy, hope, and cultural pride.
Bemi’s journey began in Nigeria, where the seeds of her compassionate calling were sown. Arriving in the United Kingdom 33 years ago, she embraced the challenges of a new world with the quiet strength emblematic of African diaspora nurses. As a mental health nurse, her days are filled with sacred acts of listening, healing, and restoring dignity—embodying African excellence in healthcare with empathy, cultural sensitivity, and an unwavering commitment to holistic care. Her work reflects the heart of nursing: a ministry of presence that uplifts the human spirit in its most vulnerable moments.

Yet, it is as “Bus Aunty” that Bemi has become a global icon, her serene TikTok videos transforming London’s red buses into vessels of memory and possibility. With a warm smile, she captures these buses gliding past landmarks—bridges, red telephone booths, Big Ben—in silent, eloquent clips that radiate authenticity. Her love for London’s transport is deeply personal: she met her late husband on a double-decker bus during her early commutes, their love blossoming until his passing from cancer in 2023. Honoring his memory, Bemi vowed to live fully, turning grief into a canvas of joy. Her favorite route, the 115 bus, carries her from home to her nursing duties, where she chooses the upper deck for its panoramic views—a metaphor for rising above adversity.
From humble posts in 2024, Bemi’s videos exploded into viral fame, one amassing over 48 million views and her account nearing 300,000 followers. Her authenticity resonates: no elaborate productions, just a genuine soul celebrating London’s transport and its unsung heroes—bus drivers who keep communities connected.
Celebrities flood her DMs, fans repost her content, guessing her next location, and her platform has become a beacon of positivity. Her influence has attracted prestigious collaborations, seamlessly blending her wholesome charm with global sophistication. Partnering with Transport for London and Mayor Sadiq Khan, she championed 2,000 zero-emission buses, making sustainability personal and inspiring.
Her work with Ikea wove home comforts into her bus adventures, while JBL Audio UK amplified her message. City Sightseeing, MyUnidays, Lingawa, Wowcher, and Alton Towers embraced her joyful spirit, with campaigns ranging from city tours to playful rollercoaster rides.
The pinnacle of her success came with Burberry’s Fall 2025 “Back to the City” campaign, where Bemi, dubbed “our fare lady,” starred alongside models on an open-top bus, celebrating London’s multicultural spirit. Photographed by Angelo Pennetta with a soundtrack by Jimothy Lacoste, the campaign—praised by Burberry’s Daniel Lee as embodying London’s diverse soul—propelled the brand’s resurgence in the 2025 Lyst Index and garnered millions of views.
Her subtle yet genius Jacquemus partnership, integrating fashion into her bus videos, earned 11 million views in two days, cementing her as a bridge between viral sensation and high-fashion muse. These collaborations, rooted in her authentic storytelling, highlight her ability to infuse humanity into global brands, honoring everyday heroes like bus drivers with a simple “good morning” or “thank you.”
For our African nursing community, Bemi Orojuogun is a luminous example of resilience and humanity. She reminds us that nurses are not just caregivers but storytellers, weaving hope amid life’s uncertainties.
