The incident, which unfolded on X, has drawn both support and criticism, highlighting tensions over labor rights, healthcare worker welfare, and collective action.

On Saturday evening, Iyanya posted a series of tweets seeking to locate the nurse, whom he praised for prioritizing “human lives” over financial gain. The post, accompanied by a video of the nurse at work duringthe nursing strike, read: “Can someone find her for me, I want to give her 500k. She is not a health care worker for the money but for human lives. Someone find her for me please.” The offer quickly gained traction, amassing over 98,000 likes and 385 retweets within hours.
Backlash and Support
The gesture sparked a polarized response. Chude Jideonwo (@chude) highlighted the context, noting that the nurse was called out by a colleague for refusing to join the strike, which was initiated to demand better working conditions and pay. Critics, including nurses and healthcare professionals, accused Iyanya of undermining the strike. Sammy (@Nurse_leumaS) argued, “Nurses are on strike, a strike demanding fair pay and recognition by the government but you want to reward a saboteur who undermines the collective action of her colleagues.” Similarly, Bernard Mayokun, RN (@BernardMayokun), suggested rewarding all 10,000 underpaid nurses instead, dubbing Iyanya “the philanthropist.”
Other users, like Lucero Somto (@LuceroSomto), questioned Iyanya’s motives, asking, “You’ve never brought out your voice to say anything about it but someone trying to sabotage a strike calling on the government to do the right thing is who you suddenly want to give 500k?” Aisha Yesufu (@AishaYesufu) added that the act, while noble, could be more destructive long-term, potentially affecting patient care if nurses’ welfare remains unaddressed.

He defended his decision, stating, “I’ll give her the money, it’s my money and I felt led to gift her, I don’t care who agrees with me or not.
