Tragic Death of Nigerian-Born UK Nurse: Strangled and Stabbed by Ex-Partner in Leeds
How Nigerian-UK Nurse Died of Knife Wound and Strangulation from Ex-Partner
By Fellow Nurses Africa | May 2, 2025
Leeds, United Kingdom – The global nursing community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 28-year-old Nigerian-born nurse, Nnena Miriam, who was tragically found dead in her Leeds apartment on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

Miriam, a dedicated healthcare professional, was discovered alongside the body of a 32-year-old man, identified as her former partner from Bradford. Authorities were alerted after a close friend, concerned by days of unanswered messages since her last hospital shift on Sunday, filed a missing person report. Police arrived at the shared accommodation on Dawlish Road around 8:35 p.m. and made the devastating discovery.
Tragic Circumstances Unfold
According to preliminary investigations by the police, Nurse Miriam suffered a knife wound and signs of strangulation. While the exact cause of death for both individuals remains under investigation, a full autopsy is scheduled this week to provide more insight into the events that led to this horrifying outcome.
This tragedy has left a profound impact on the Nigerian and UK healthcare communities. Miriam had only just returned from Nigeria, where she had celebrated her introduction ceremony — a significant step toward her traditional marriage. Her fiancé, sadly, had not yet joined her in the UK.

Alarming Signs Before Her Death
Friends and colleagues close to Miriam have since revealed the possibility of her being in an emotionally abusive relationship based on hints from her diary. Although she had ended the relationship months ago, her ex-partner reportedly continued to force his way into her life. Just days before her death, Miriam had expressed to her flatmates that she would no longer allow him into her home — a decision that, tragically, preceded her final moments.
Personal diary notes discovered by colleagues hinted at her emotional struggle during the past months. They revealed that Miriam had found new love and was trying to move forward, but remnants of the previous relationship remained a source of stress and fear.
Support from the Nursing Community
In the wake of this tragedy, the Nigerian Nurses Charitable Association UK (NNCAUK) has activated a robust support system for its members. Speaking to Fellow Nurses Africa, the Regional Lead confirmed that trauma-informed mental health services, grief counselling, peer support networks, and direct outreach programs are now being offered to affected nurses across the UK.
NNCAUK President, Mrs. Wendy Olayiwola, expressed her condolences:
“This is an incredibly difficult time for our entire community. NNCAUK is committed to walking with Miriam’s family, friends, and colleagues through this season of grief. We are urging all our members not to suffer in silence — support is available, and we are here for you.”
The association is expected to release a detailed official statement later today.
Ongoing Investigation
West Yorkshire Police have launched a full investigation and are urging the public to respect the privacy of the families involved and refrain from spreading speculation or unverified details. Authorities are continuing to gather evidence and speak with witnesses and residents in the area to understand the full scope of this heartbreaking incident.
This devastating event serves as a painful reminder of the dangers of intimate partner violence and the urgent need for greater awareness, prevention, and protection within our communities — especially for women navigating difficult relationships while balancing demanding careers.
Our thoughts and prayers remain with the family, friends, and colleagues of Nurse Nnena Miriam.
May her soul rest in peace, and may light perpetual shine upon her.
