Over 13,800 Candidates Pass May 2025 Nursing Council Exams in Nigeria

NMCN Announces 76% Overall Pass Rate Across General and Post Basic Programmes

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has officially released the results of the May 2025 Professional Examination in General and Post Basic Nursing Programmes. The announcement, approved by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, confirms that 13,880 candidates were successful, representing an impressive 76% national pass rate.

This outcome reflects continued progress in Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening the nursing workforce, upholding professional standards, and supporting healthcare delivery across the country.

Programme-Wise Performance Breakdown

According to the release signed by Ag. Registrar/CEO Ndagi Alhassan, the results reveal varying success rates across the different programmes under the council:

  • General Nursing Programme:
    • 9,472 successful candidates
    • 83% pass rate – the highest across all categories
    • Indicates strong foundational nursing education nationwide.
  • Post Basic Nursing Programmes:
    • 2,397 successful candidates
    • 62% pass rate – a respectable outcome in specialized training tracks.
  • Foreign-Trained Nursing (FTN):
    • 364 candidates passed
    • 53% pass rate, highlighting ongoing integration challenges for internationally educated nurses.
  • Refresher Programme:
    • 81 successful candidates
    • 44% pass rate, suggesting a need for improved preparatory support for returning professionals.
  • Community Nursing Programme:
    • 1,566 successful candidates
    • 77% pass rate, reflecting growing investment in rural and grassroots healthcare services.

Instructions for Successful Candidates

The Council has directed all nursing institutions to check results online from Monday, 12th May 2025, and candidates are expected to complete their online registration and licensing via the NMCN portal within 90 days.

  • Late registration will attract a fee of ₦16,250.
  • Failure to complete first-time licensing annually will incur a penalty of ₦6,562.

The next professional examination is scheduled to hold from Tuesday, 4th to Friday, 7th November 2025. Heads of training institutions must submit the required Examination Application Checklist (EAC) for the November diet on or before 31st July 2025.

A Milestone in Nigeria’s Nursing Education Landscape

This successful examination round underscores the resilience, dedication, and capacity of Nigeria’s nursing and midwifery training institutions. With the General Nursing Programme achieving an 83% pass rate, and the Community Nursing Programme not far behind at 77%, the results point to a growing competence and readiness among Nigerian nurses to meet both domestic and global healthcare challenges.

The Council reaffirmed its stance that no complaints about the results will be entertained after 30 days of publication, urging institutions to verify and acknowledge the results promptly.

Congratulations from the Nursing Council

The Ag. Registrar/CEO, Ndagi Alhassan, extended warm congratulations to all successful candidates, encouraging them to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, compassion, and continuous learning.

“This is a proud moment for nursing in Nigeria. We salute your hard work and dedication and encourage you to embrace your next steps with commitment and excellence,” the Registrar stated.
