Nigerian Nurse Gets Better Job After Viral Tweet About Low Salary

Osogbo, Nigeria – April 2025
A young Nigerian nurse from Osogbo has received a better-paying nursing job after sharing a heartfelt tweet about her low salary. Her post, which quickly went viral, sparked nationwide support and advice from many people online.

Olamiduni, who finished nursing school in November 2024, shared her struggles in a January 2025 tweet:
“I’m a registered nurse living in Osogbo. I’m seriously in need of a job please. This ₦40k is not enough to live on.”

This honest tweet gained thousands of reactions, with many fellow nurses and health professionals offering encouragement and support.

One user, @Kadmaye, advised her to look outside the country:
“Start applying for nursing jobs in the UK, USA, or Australia. Nurses are in high demand there, and the pay is much better. Don’t be afraid to start—it may change your life.”

But others highlighted how difficult moving abroad can be, especially without money.
@Folucious_ wrote:
“How can someone who can barely eat afford UK visa fees? Let’s be realistic with our advice.”

Another user, @SaintVawulence, offered a safer option:
“Opportunities might come from this tweet. Be careful. Don’t accept private clinic offers. Try tertiary hospitals, and when you settle, focus on writing your NCLEX.”

Many Nigerians related to her situation. @DorcasOjebode said:
“Everyone keeps saying ‘japa’ (relocate), but it’s not that easy. Not everyone has the money to leave. Must we leave Nigeria before things get better?”

Despite all the challenges, Olamiduni’s story took a beautiful turn. In April 2025, she posted a joyful update:

“I’ve just gotten a better nursing job! Thanks to all the reposts, support, and even the financial help I received through this app. I’m truly grateful to everyone who helped.”

Her story shows the power of social media and the importance of community support. It also highlights the need for better working conditions and pay for nurses in Nigeria. Many young nurses like Olamiduni are still hoping for real change or a chance to build a better future—whether at home or abroad.
