
The Niger State House of Assembly has officially passed a bill to establish the Niger State Colleges of Nursing and Midwifery.
The Private Member Bill, sponsored by Hon. Murtala Adam50u Badaru (Suleja Constituency), was approved today after a detailed review.
Hon. Muhammad Sani Idris (Tafa Constituency), Chairman of the Joint Committee on Education, Science and Technology; Health, Nutrition and Primary Healthcare; and Judiciary and Legal Matters, presented the committee’s report.
The committee held a public hearing with key stakeholders, including:
- Ministry of Justice
- Ministry of Education
- Ministry of Tertiary Education
- Ministry of Secondary and Tertiary Health
- Nigerian Nurses and Midwives Association
- Nigerian Bar Association
- College of Nursing Sciences
The new law will create a single College of Nursing Sciences with multiple campuses across the state.
Its main goals are:
- Better use of resources
- Higher training standards
- Stronger coordination
- Full compliance with national regulatory bodies
After clause-by-clause consideration in the Committee of the Whole, the House passed the bill into law.
Deputy Speaker Hon. Afiniki Eunice Dauda commended the committee and directed the Clerk to send a clean copy to the Governor for assent.
In the same sitting, the House received for First Reading a bill to repeal and re-enact the Niger State Drugs and Hospital Consumables Management Agency Law.
It was sponsored by Hon. Pharm. Mohammed Nasir Umar (Paikoro Constituency).
