Bowen University, Osun State Emerges Champion at the 2026 Southwest Zonal Florence Nightingale Essay and Speech Competition
The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) successfully hosted the Southwest Zonal edition of the newly revamped Florence Nightingale Essay and Speech Competition (FNESC) on Wednesday, 25 February 2026, at the Telemedicine Hall, Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Fourteen outstanding nursing students from seven states — Ogun, Lagos, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo, and Kwara — participated in this prestigious contest, which carries the inspiring theme:
“Advancing Nursing Excellence through Evidence-Based Practice and Compassionate Leadership: Reflections on Florence Nightingale’s Enduring Vision.”
OFFICIAL SOUTHWEST ZONAL RESULTS
🥇 1st Position – Bowen University, Osun State
🥈 2nd Position – College of Nursing, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (CON, UITH), Ilorin, Kwara State
🥉 3rd Position – Nigerian Army College of Nursing (NACON), Lagos
The Bowen University champion advances to represent the Southwest Zone at the National Finals during the upcoming leadership conference in Abuja.
Ogun State, as gracious host, expressed profound honour and gratitude to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria under the leadership of Registrar/CEO, Dr. Ndagi Al Hassan, for entrusting the state with this zonal edition of the revamped competition. Special appreciation was extended to the Southwest Zonal Coordinator, Dr. Modupe Ayoola, all Directors of Nursing Services present from across the zone, and every participating institution.
In the official statement by Dr. S. O. Aminu, Director of Nursing Services, Ogun State Ministry of Health:
“Ogun State is indeed honoured and grateful to NMCN under the leadership of our able Registrar Dr. Ndagi Al Hassan to host the newly revamped FNESC for the SW zone. We appreciate the good guidance from the SW coordinator of the program Dr. Modupe Ayoola.
Lastly all Directors of Nursing Services from the SW present as well as the participating institutions are all appreciated.
Congratulations to the SW winner who will represent the zone at the National level.
Ogun is committed to promoting Nursing Excellence and will not hesitate to answer calls to achieve this.”
