The event, organised by the Golden Lamp Leadership Initiative Africa (GLLIA), will take place at the University of Ibadan from 26 to 31 October 2026. Registration is free and remains open until 30 June 2026.

Building on previous success

GLLIA has a proven track record of recognising outstanding student research. At its 2025 Undergraduate Nursing Research Summit held in Lagos, final-year students from universities in the South West and South East presented innovative projects under the theme “From Basics to Cutting Edge: Advancing Nursing Through Research.”

Top honours went to Victor Saliu of Redeemer’s University, who won first place and ₦2 million. His colleague, Uba Paul, also from Redeemer’s University, secured third place with ₦250,000. The university’s Department of Nursing Science received a ₦1 million departmental award for its overall contribution.

The 2026 edition, hosted at the University of Ibadan, is expected to build on this success with even greater participation and higher research standards.

About the organiser

GLLIA is a non-profit organisation founded in 2023 by Mrs Oluyemisi Otitoloju, a research nurse and public health specialist. The initiative focuses on developing nursing leadership and research capacity across Africa through mentorship, training, and platforms that reward academic excellence.

How to take part

Students can enter in two categories:

  • Individual category: Final-year students submit their dissertation with a supporting letter from their Head of Department.
  • School category: Institutions must submit a minimum of 10 entries through their Head of Department.

All entries must be made through the official website: goldenlampleadershipinitiativeafrica.org.

If you are passionate about leadership, community impact, and shaping Africa’s future, we encourage you to apply.

Why the initiative matters

Strong nursing research is essential for improving patient care and shaping health policy in Nigeria and across Africa. Yet many final-year projects never progress beyond academic submission.

By offering significant financial rewards and national exposure, GLLIA, under the leadership of its founder Mrs Oluyemisi Otitoloju, is encouraging students to produce high-quality, evidence-based work that can influence real-world healthcare outcomes.

Next steps for students

Heads of Department and final-year students are encouraged to begin the registration process immediately, as the deadline is approaching.
