32-Year-Old Nigerian Nurse, Wemimo, Seeks Support as She Battles Breast Cancer

Lagos, Nigeria – 29 May 2026

A 32-year-old Nigerian nurse, Olore Wemimo, is appealing for support from fellow nurses, healthcare professionals, friends, and well-meaning members of the public as she continues treatment for breast cancer.

Nurse Wemimo, who works with Wellcare Home Medicals Limited in Lagos, has spent years caring for patients and supporting families through difficult health challenges. Today, colleagues say the compassionate caregiver now finds herself in urgent need of support as she navigates her own life-changing diagnosis.

Friends and former classmates describe her as dedicated, humble, and deeply committed to the nursing profession. Many within the healthcare community have since rallied around her, offering encouragement, prayers, and financial assistance towards her ongoing treatment.

According to supporters, Nurse Wemimo initially believed the symptoms she experienced were minor health concerns and did not immediately suspect breast cancer. However, following further medical investigations, she was diagnosed with the disease in December 2025, a diagnosis that marked the beginning of an emotional and physically demanding journey.

In sharing her experience publicly, she has spoken openly about the realities and struggles of living with cancer, including the physical toll of treatment, emotional challenges, and the financial burden associated with ongoing care.

“The past years have been very difficult and emotional for me and my family.I have one more chemotherapy to go and then I will start radiotherapy. I got diagnosed December last year. I started chemotherapy February this year, have done five sessions of chemotherapy so far. I have done surgery also.”

Since beginning chemotherapy in February 2026, Nurse Wemimo has completed five treatment sessions and undergone surgery as part of her care plan. She is expected to commence radiotherapy following her final chemotherapy session.

A GoFundMe campaign launched earlier this year by former colleagues and supporters has so far raised £1,102 towards the estimated £6,500 required for her treatment and continued care.

Campaign organisers say the funds raised have already supported chemotherapy sessions, diagnostic investigations, and other urgent medical expenses. However, significant financial support is still urgently needed to prevent interruptions to treatment.

A renewed appeal shared by fellow nurse and healthcare advocate Bolanle, popularly known online as @_Nursepreneur, stated that approximately ₦2 million is urgently needed to secure the next phase of treatment.

Supporters say Nurse Wemimo’s story highlights not only the personal challenges faced by individuals living with cancer, but also the financial realities confronting many healthcare workers in Nigeria when dealing with serious illness.

For many nurses and healthcare professionals following her journey, the outpouring of support reflects the compassion and solidarity that continue to define the nursing profession.

Organisers say all donations are used directly for treatment, medications, investigations, and related care expenses. They also confirmed that updates on her progress will continue to be shared with supporters.

As messages of encouragement continue to pour in from colleagues across Nigeria and abroad, many hope the nursing community and members of the public will continue to stand beside Nurse Wemimo as she fights towards recovery.

At Fellow Nurses Africa, we stand in solidarity with Nurse Wemimo during this difficult time. We believe nurses who dedicate their lives to caring for others deserve the same compassion and support when faced with illness.

Her story reflects the challenges many healthcare workers experience, and we encourage fellow nurses, organisations, and well-meaning individuals to support her in any way they can.
