
The Chief Executive Officer of African Nursing Activists (ANA), Nr. Reuben Zirahgi Markus, today made an impromptu courtesy visit to the national headquarters of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM).
Key outcomes from the high-level meeting:
- Full endorsement of the campaign to legally protect the professional title “Nurse (Nr)”
- Strong praise for NANNM’s ongoing welfare reforms and sustained advocacy with the Federal Government
- Celebration of Nigeria winning the hosting rights for the Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Congress – a historic first
- Commitment to deeper collaboration between ANA and NANNM on policy, activism and youth engagement
NANNM National President Nr. Haruna Mamman welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to deliver lasting change.
ANA CEO Nr. Reuben Zirahgi Markus declared:
“Nursing in Nigeria is rising. With this purposeful leadership, the transformation we have prayed for is finally within reach.”
In attendance also were:

- National Treasurer – Nr. Mercy Lenka

The leadership urged young nurses to stay active and supportive as these reforms roll out.
The meeting closed with warm felicitations to Nr. Markus ahead of his wedding on 23 December 2025.
