Outrage as Nursing Job Advert Offers ₦100k Salary for Master’s Degree Holders With 4 Years’ Experience
There has been an heated debate following the circulation of a job advert from an undisclosed school in Portharcourt, Nigeria, seeking a School Nurse with a Master’s degree in nursing and four years of professional experience — for a salary of just ₦100,000 to ₦120,000 per month.
The advert, which has been trending on X (formerly Twitter), sparked heated reactions after nurse Daniel Ogochukwu posted:
“Make it make sense 😩💔 100k salary for a Master’s degree in nursing… 4yrs experience for that matter. How did we get here?? Employers need to do better oh.”
Many nurses expressed anger, calling the offer “insulting” and a sign of the worsening conditions for healthcare professionals in Nigeria. Others questioned how such pay scales can attract or retain skilled nurses, especially as many are leaving the country in search of better opportunities abroad.
The debate touches on a deeper issue: the undervaluation of healthcare workers despite their critical role in the nation’s well-being. With rising costs of living and the ongoing “japa” wave, low pay for highly qualified nurses could further deepen Nigeria’s healthcare workforce crisis.

This viral post has reignited calls for nursing unions, policymakers, and employers to urgently review salary structures, ensuring fair compensation that reflects the training, skill, and responsibility required in the profession.
Do you think offering low pay for highly skilled nurses is a result of economic realities or an intentional undervaluing of the profession?
