McPherson University Appoints Mrs. Dorcas Olukemi Oluyemisi Shonibare as Coordinating Dean, Faculty of Nursing Sciences

McPherson University has announced the appointment of Mrs. Dorcas Olukemi Oluyemisi Shonibare, a seasoned nurse educator and public health leader, as the Coordinating Dean of the Faculty of Nursing Sciences for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Mrs. Shonibare is widely respected in Nigeria’s nursing community, with a career spanning over 35 years across nursing education, hospital administration, and regulatory development.

Her academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Nursing Education (2001) and Master’s in Maternal & Child Health (2012) from the University of Ibadan, an MPA from Lagos State University, and professional training at UCH Ibadan School of Nursing (1987) and Lagos State School of Midwifery (1994).

In recognition of her lifelong contribution to nursing, she was awarded the Fellowship of the West African College of Nursing (FWACN) in 2021.

Shonibare’s career trajectory includes key leadership roles such as: Director of Nursing Services, Lagos State Ministry of Health (retired January 2025)Clinical and academic roles at Lagos Island Maternity Hospital, Ayinke House, and training schoolsNational examiner and committee member for the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN)Board member of Lead Nurse Africa Organisation and Foursquare Hospital, Idimu.

She is a member of NANNM, GNAN, and NIM, and has taught in multiple higher institutions including LASUCOM and NOUN.Her appointment is a major step in McPherson University’s strategic plan to raise a new generation of ethically grounded and highly skilled nurses who will impact the healthcare system in Nigeria and beyond.

A passionate mentor and advocate for professional development, Mrs. Shonibare has facilitated over 65 academic presentations and mentored emerging nurse leaders nationwide.

The university expressed confidence that under her leadership, the Faculty of Nursing Sciences will record new milestones in research, training, and academic excellence.
