Controversy at Aro Hospital: Nursing Student Suspended After Alleged Assault by Doctor

Fellow Nurses Africa News | 18 July, 2025.

Abeokuta, Ogun State – A brewing scandal has engulfed the Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, following allegations that a post-basic nursing student was physically assaulted by a senior doctor in the hospital.

Sources claim that the incident, which has sent shockwaves through the nursing community, led to a panel meeting yesterday. In a move that has sparked outrage, the student was allegedly suspended, just two weeks before their critical hospital final examination—a decision many are calling unjust and retaliatory.

Adding fuel to the fire, reports indicate that SERVICOM, the hospital’s service quality unit, abruptly expelled all students—both regular and orientation—from the wards, leaving aspiring nurses in limbo and raising questions about the hospital’s handling of the situation. Insiders describe the atmosphere as tense, with accusations of unfair treatment and a lack of transparency swirling around the institution.

The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) at Aro Hospital is holding an emergency meeting this morning to address the escalating crisis. Sources suggest the association is under pressure to demand accountability and ensure justice for the affected student. The incident has ignited a broader debate about workplace safety, power dynamics, and the treatment of nursing students in Nigeria’s healthcare system, with many questioning whether the suspension was an attempt to silence dissent.

The nursing community is rallying for justice, emphasizing the need for moral integrity and professional conduct in healthcare institutions. As the controversy deepens, voices within and beyond the hospital are calling for a thorough investigation into the alleged assault and the subsequent actions taken against the student.

More details on this unfolding story will follow as new information emerges.
