Fellow Nurses Africa | Abeokuta Nigeria| 18 July, 2025.

Abeokuta, Nigeria – Full Report: Alleged Assault on Student Nurse at Neuropsychiatric Hospital Unveiled.

Following our earlier report on a developing story, Fellow Nurses Africa brings you the full details of a disturbing incident at the Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta. The case involves student nurse Ogunjobi Oluwaseyi Samuel, who alleges physical and verbal assault by senior doctor Dr. A.A. Majekodunmi on June 30, 2025. The hospital has since suspended Oluwaseyi pending investigation, as outlined in an official letter dated July 17, 2025.

The incident reportedly unfolded during a ward round when Dr. Majekodunmi arrived at the consultation room around 1 p.m. without prior arrangement. Oluwaseyi explained that orientation students had taken chairs to the ward, leaving him to source two broken ones for the nurses. As he attempted to return them after a health assistant provided replacements, Dr. Majekodunmi allegedly dragged the chairs from him. Despite Oluwaseyi’s clarification that the chairs were needed in the ward, the doctor escalated the encounter, reportedly saying, “Are you okay?”, “You are stupid,” and “I will beat you, you are a bastard.” The situation allegedly worsened when Dr. Majekodunmi struck Oluwaseyi’s leg with a chair, pushed him out of the room, and continued hurling insults.

An investigative panel, constituted by the hospital management, verified Oluwaseyi’s claims, leading to the suspension letter from Principal/Head of School, Dr. (Mrs) Omirin T.C. The letter states: “Consequent upon the case of assault reported by you and the proceedings from the sitting of the investigative panel… I have been directed to convey to you, your suspension from the Eighteen Months Post Basic Psychiatric Nursing Programme… pending the time your case is determined.” Oluwaseyi has been ordered to vacate the school hostel and hospital premises immediately, per a memo (Ref. no. NPHA/039/VOL.1/610) dated July 17, 2025.

Sources speaking to Fellow Nurses Africa’s correspondent have confirmed the incident, adding credibility to Oluwaseyi’s account. Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Aro Abeokuta hospital branch, is currently meeting to debate the crisis and determine their stance.

The Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, has not yet issued an official response regarding Dr. Majekodunmi’s alleged actions. Fellow Nurses Africa is actively following this matter, and more details will be provided shortly. Stay tuned for updates on our website.
