Mrs. Damilola Balogun, a Nigerian woman living in the United Kingdom, has died following complications after surgery.

Balogun passed away on 1 January 2026 at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

She had given birth five months earlier.

The  mother of three children aged 11, 10 and five months initially sought treatment at Walsall Manor Hospital for persistent migraines.

She was discharged twice before being admitted when symptoms did not improve.

Scans later revealed fluid pressure in her brain.

She was transferred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for surgery.

The operation was initially reported as successful.

Her condition deteriorated days later.

She was placed on life support and pronounced dead on New Year’s Day.

Balogun was the principal applicant for her family’s skilled worker visa to the UK.

Her husband has been unable to work during her illness.

The family has depleted savings and now faces funeral costs.

A GoFundMe campaign launched for the family raised over £3,500 of a £5,500 target within 24 hours.

The appeal was announced on X by UK-based Nigerian @Dhkrullah.

Balogun is survived by her husband, three children, mother and grandmother.
