Tinubu Approves Centralised Internship Placement for Nurses
President Bola Tinubu has approved a centralised system for placing nurse interns in accredited public health facilities across Nigeria, the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has announced.
The policy, confirmed through the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, introduces a standardised and transparent framework for allocating internship positions to newly qualified nurses.

In a circular dated 27 October 2025 and signed by Acting Registrar/CEO Ndagi Alhassan, the NMCN stated:
“The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare has approved the implementation of centralized placement of nurse interns across accredited public health facilities in Nigeria.”

The directive has been sent to health commissioners in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, university vice-chancellors, hospital chief medical directors, and the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM).

- Ensure merit-based and equitable placement
- Reduce regional disparities in internship access
- Strengthen quality control in clinical training
Implementation
Detailed guidelines on application procedures, eligibility, timelines, and participating institutions will be released in due course, the council said.
The NMCN commended stakeholders for their ongoing commitment to excellence in nursing education and practice.
