Thousands of Nurses Gather for the 30th FCN Leadership Conference with a Call to “SHIFT”
More than 2,000 Christian nurses, nursing students and healthcare professionals gathered at the Children’s Auditorium, Redemption Camp, Ogun State, as the Fellowship of Christian Nurses Nigeria Southwest Zone (FCN-SWZ) hosted its 30th Zonal Leadership Conference (ZLC) 2026 from September 17 to 20, 2026.
Held under the theme “SHIFT,” the four-day conference combined spiritual renewal with professional development, leadership training, research engagement, financial literacy and capacity building. It marked a significant milestone for the fellowship, reflecting three decades of leadership conferences in the Southwest Zone while reinforcing its mission of raising nurses who combine clinical excellence with Christian character and service.
For thousands of participants who travelled from hospitals, universities, colleges of nursing and healthcare institutions across the Southwest, the conference became more than an annual gathering. It was a platform for reflection, learning and preparation for greater influence within healthcare and society.
From a Small Fellowship to a National Movement
The story behind the conference stretches back more than six decades.
The Fellowship of Christian Nurses Nigeria traces its origins to 1960, when a small group of Christian nurses began meeting at Vom Christian Hospital in Plateau State. United by a shared conviction that nursing should care for the whole person—spirit, soul and body—the fellowship gradually expanded across Nigeria, establishing student fellowships, zonal leadership structures and becoming affiliated with Nurses Christian Fellowship International (NCFI).
Today, FCN continues to shape generations of nurses through discipleship, leadership development, mentorship and professional engagement.
The 2026 conference therefore represented not only another annual event but also the 30th edition of the Southwest Zone’s flagship leadership gathering—a milestone that reflects the fellowship’s enduring investment in developing nurse leaders.
More Than 2,000 Gather Under One Theme
From the opening hours of registration, Redemption Camp welcomed streams of participants arriving from teaching hospitals, mission hospitals, universities and colleges of nursing across the Southwest.
The atmosphere blended worship with professional networking.
Experienced nurse leaders shared conversations with students beginning their careers.
Researchers exchanged ideas alongside clinicians.
Prayer sessions flowed naturally into leadership discussions.
Throughout the conference, one message remained constant: a shift in season requires a shift in preparation.
The conference challenged participants to embrace change in capacity, perspective, posture, responsibility and influence, encouraging nurses to move beyond complacency while pursuing excellence in healthcare, leadership, family and society.
The Spiritual Foundation of “SHIFT”
The conference opened with prayer, praise and worship before Sis. Oyindamola Oyadele delivered the opening charge, “The Shift: Understanding Times and Seasons.”
Her message introduced the conference’s central challenge—recognising changing seasons and responding with wisdom, faith and intentional action.
That spiritual focus continued throughout the programme through Bible study, prayer sessions, teaching and impartation.
One of the defining moments came during the Bible study titled “Enlarge the Place of Your Tent.”

The study explored the need for Christians to increase their capacity for greater usefulness, influence, fruitfulness and responsibility.
Participants reflected on barriers that can hinder growth, including:

The sessions emphasised renewing the mind, abiding in God, taking practical steps towards progress and preparing for increase before opportunities manifest.
From Competence to Meaningful Impact
A major professional highlight came during the academic seminar “The Shift: From Competence to Impact,” facilitated by Dr. Olabisi Oluwaseyi, Associate Professor at the University of Ibadan, mental health specialist, academic researcher and statistical analyst.
Rather than focusing solely on acquiring professional competence, the session challenged nurses to examine how knowledge, skills and expertise can translate into measurable impact within healthcare and society.
The wider academic programme reinforced FCN’s growing emphasis on producing nurses who contribute not only through clinical practice but also through leadership, research and professional advancement.
Divine Positioning and Purpose
Another notable highlight featured Bro. Ayoade Oluwasegun, a UK-registered nurse and President of the Fellowship of Christian Nurses UK.
Through “Divine Positioning for Shift – Part A” and Part B, he explored personal responsibility, divine positioning and readiness for opportunities associated with different seasons of life.
The sessions encouraged participants to recognise that new assignments often require corresponding shifts in mindset, preparation and action.
Building Christ-Centred Relationships
The conference also recognised that nursing extends beyond professional responsibilities.
The relationship and marriage panel titled “Christ-Centered Relationships: God’s Blueprint for Every Season” featured:

Preparing Nurse Leaders for the Future of Healthcare
Leadership development remained one of the conference’s defining pillars.
During “The Shift: Equipping Nurse Leaders for the Future of Healthcare,” Bro. Femi Akinrinde challenged participants to develop leadership capacity capable of responding to rapidly changing healthcare systems.
The leadership emphasis continued through Discipleship and Training Impartation, followed by the Executive Induction of newly appointed zonal officers, including the Zonal President, Vice President, Administrator and Student Representative.
The induction symbolised FCN Southwest’s commitment to preparing future generations of servant leaders within the nursing profession.
Financial Literacy and Research Development
Professional growth extended beyond clinical practice into financial wellbeing.

In the seminar “Financial Shift: Building Wealth and Financial Security for Nurses,” Bro. Emmanuel Okufeso encouraged participants to view financial stewardship as an essential aspect of long-term professional development.
The conference also included an Institute of Nursing Research, Nigeria (INR) orientation, introducing participants to opportunities that strengthen research capacity and scholarly engagement among nurses.
Building Capacity for Greater Assignment
The recurring theme of preparation continued through Rev. Olusegun Salako’s message, “Enlarging Your Tent: Building Capacity for God’s Assignment.”
The session reinforced the idea that greater responsibility requires deliberate preparation.
Whether in ministry, leadership or healthcare, participants were encouraged to develop the spiritual, professional and personal capacity needed for future assignments.
The Final Charge: Arise and Go Forward
The conference concluded with the closing charge and impartation, “The Shift: Arise, Go Forward,” delivered by FCNSWZ Zonal President Sis. Faith Azeez.
Testimonies, thanksgiving and a vote of thanks brought the four-day gathering to a close before participants departed for their communities, hospitals and workplaces.
They left carrying a shared challenge—to lead with integrity, serve with excellence, build greater capacity and become more effective in every sphere of influence.

Across worship, academic seminars, leadership sessions, relationship discussions, financial literacy training and research engagement, the conference encouraged thousands of Christian nurses to examine their present capacity and prepare for greater responsibility and lasting impact.
For a fellowship that began with a handful of nurses at Vom Christian Hospital in 1960, the sight of more than 2,000 participants gathering under one roof serves as a reminder of how far the movement has grown—and of its continuing commitment to shaping nurses who influence healthcare while serving God and society.
