UK Nurse Jailed for Eight Years After Raping Vulnerable Colleague and Sexually Assaulting Two Others

A former nurse manager has been sentenced to seven years and nine months in prison for raping one colleague and sexually assaulting two others at a care home in Lanarkshire.

Naijil Paul, 47, was working as a senior staff member when the offences took place between 2018 and 2019.

He admitted the crimes at the High Court in Glasgow in October 2025 after being extradited from India, where he had fled in 2019 when a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Paul was arrested in Delhi in February 2025 and returned to Scotland to face justice.

The court heard that Paul raped a 26-year-old colleague in her office in April 2018 after threatening to sack her and make her and her children homeless if she refused. He assaulted a 19-year-old care assistant on three separate occasions and a 21-year-old care assistant on two occasions.

Lord Renucci described the offences as “planned and deliberate” and noted that Paul had abused his position of power. The judge also highlighted Paul’s continued victim-blaming in a pre-sentence report, stating that this raised concerns about his risk level.

Paul will be on the sex offenders register for life, supervised for two years after release, and is banned from contacting any of the victims.
