Stroke Patient Claims Permanent Urinary Damage After Treatment at Lagos Hospital, Takes Legal Action

A stroke patient has issued a pre-action claim against R-Jolad Hospital Nigeria Limited in Lagos for alleged medical negligence.

Alfred Ogene was admitted to the hospital on 15 November 2025 for partial paralysis from a stroke affecting his right limbs.

He had no prior urinary issues.

A urinary catheter was inserted due to mobility problems.

The next day, urine stopped flowing properly into the bag.

Staff removed and replaced the catheter.

Ogene soon experienced increasing pain and discomfort.

He reported this repeatedly to nursing staff.

His abdominal area became distended.

Doctors later intervened to relieve urinary retention.

Post-discharge assessments showed damage to his urinary system.

The complications caused prolonged discomfort, emotional distress and limited recovery.

Ogene has been unable to fully resume pastoral and professional duties.

His lawyers, Noyimtairu & Co., issued a Memorandum of Claim.

They allege negligence by the hospital and staff.

The claim seeks compensation for injuries and losses.

Ogene is open to alternative dispute resolution.

A negotiation meeting is proposed for early January 2026.

R-Jolad Hospital has not issued a public response.

The allegations remain untested in court.
