Nigerian Healthcare Worker Who Grabbed Colleague from Behind and Attempted to Kiss Her Faces Prison Term in the UK
In a case that has shaken the trust inherent in healthcare settings, Kemzi Ogbonna, a 39-year-old Nigerian healthcare worker based in a Huntingdonshire hospital, faces a 14-month prison term for sexually assaulting a female colleague. The conviction, handed down at Cambridge Crown Court on September 19, 2025, following a trial on August 8, underscores the judiciary’s firm stance against workplace misconduct and highlights the resilience of survivors who seek justice.

The assaults took place on March 15, 2023, when Ogbonna approached his colleague from behind, encircling her chest in an unconsented embrace and attempting to kiss her. He further disregarded her boundaries by proposing a romantic relationship, despite her evident discomfort. Initially, Ogbonna apologized, framing his actions as a “mistake.” However, just one week later, he escalated his misconduct by exposing himself and requesting she touch him, compounding the violation in a professional environment dedicated to care and safety.
The victim’s courage to report the incidents was bolstered by a trusted friend who recognized the gravity of Ogbonna’s actions and encouraged her to contact Cambridgeshire Constabulary later that year. PC Lomas-Farley, reflecting on the case, stated,
“Ogbonna exploited the expectation that his victim would remain silent, but her bravery, supported by a friend, ensured accountability. This sentence reinforces that such behavior is unacceptable and will face consequences.”
Ogbonna’s conviction for sexual assault and exposure carries a 14-month custodial sentence and a five-year restraining order to protect the victim from further contact. This outcome serves as a powerful affirmation that healthcare settings—where trust and professionalism are paramount—must remain free from predation. The case resonates with many who face the daunting prospect of reporting workplace violations, fearing disbelief or professional repercussions. It stands as a testament to the importance of supportive allies and a responsive justice system.
For those affected by similar experiences, Cambridgeshire Constabulary and national helplines offer vital resources, ensuring survivors are not alone in their pursuit of justice. This case calls on all institutions to uphold environments where respect is non-negotiable and accountability is unwavering.
Ogbonna’s actions betrayed not only his colleague but also the ethos of the healthcare profession. Yet, through the victim’s resolve and the court’s decisive action, this story reaffirms a commitment to dignity and safety for all.
