At least 11 residents have been killed and 30 others injured after a fire engulfed a nursing home in the north-eastern Bosnian city of Tuzla late on Tuesday.
The blaze erupted on the eighth floor of the multi-storey building shortly after 20:45 local time (19:45 GMT) on 4 November, spreading rapidly to higher levels.

Many of the deceased were bedridden or had severe mobility impairments, according to local reports cited by Reuters. Emergency services confirmed that the injured include firefighters, police, care staff, medical workers and residents, with at least 20 receiving hospital treatment.
Survivors from upper floors were moved to safety on lower levels amid intense smoke and flames. Resident Ruza Kajic, who was on the third floor, told Bosnia-Herzegovina public broadcaster BHRT: “I heard a cracking sound and saw burning material falling from above. On the upper floors, there are bedridden people.”
Bosnian Prime Minister Nermin Nikšić called the incident “a disaster of enormous proportions”.
The cause of the fire has not been established. An investigation will begin once the site is safe, with formal identification of victims due to start later on Wednesday.
In a statement, the nursing home said authorities are “taking all necessary actions to establish the circumstances that led to this tragic event”.
