Honouring Excellence: Amb. Yetunde Ololade Amoo Celebrated by UCH Ibadan for Winning Prestigious DAISY Award

In a heartwarming celebration of nursing excellence, Ambassador Yetunde Ololade Amoo, a distinguished Nigerian public health nurse and global health advocate, was recently honoured by the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan during the 35th Association of Peri-operative Nursing Students (APONS) Annual Week and Founders’ Day. This recognition comes on the heels of Amb. Amoo’s remarkable achievement as a recipient of the globally coveted DAISY Award for Nurses Advancing Health Equity, presented by the U-VOL Foundation, a United States-based international healthcare non-profit.

A Prestigious Global Recognition

The DAISY Award, one of the most prestigious accolades in the nursing profession, celebrates nurses who demonstrate extraordinary contributions to patient care, health equity, and advocacy. Amb. Amoo, who thought she was making a routine courtesy visit to her alma mater, was greeted with an outpouring of admiration from nurse leaders, colleagues, and mentors at UCH Ibadan. The award presentation was led by Professor Jesse A. Otegbayo, the Chief Medical Director of UCH, alongside Mrs. Olapeju Olamuyiwa, Head of the Perioperative Nursing School. Their presence highlighted the significance of Amb. Amoo’s achievement, not only for her but for the entire Nigerian nursing community.

A Sigma Global Academy Scholar (2025), 2024 DEAL Fellow, ISGlobal Alumni, and an ICN Congress 2025 Presenter, she has consistently championed health equity, gender advocacy, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Her work has not only elevated the nursing profession but also positioned Nigerian nurses as key players on the global stage.
