Nurse Folusho Bosede Eniayewun Shines as DAISY Award Winner at International Nurses Week 2025 in Lagos

On May 22, 2025, the vibrant city of Lagos was abuzz with celebration as the International Nurses Week 2025 Summit, organized by the Directorate of Nursing Services (DNS) and the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), reached a heartfelt highlight with the DAISY Award presentation.

This prestigious accolade, sponsored by the National Association of Nigerian Nurses in North America (NANNNA), recognized the extraordinary compassion and dedication of Nurse Folusho Bosede Eniayewun, a Chief Nursing Officer at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Yaba, Lagos.

A Celebration of Compassion and Excellence

The DAISY Award, a globally recognized honor celebrating nurses who go above and beyond in patient care, added a special sparkle to the Nurses Week Summit. Presented by Nurse Sola Aketi, Director of Nursing Services at the Lagos State Ministry of Health, and Dr. Esther Osunluyi, representing NANNNA from the USA, the ceremony was a moment of pride for the nursing community. The event, held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, was filled with applause, music from a live band, and widespread media coverage, amplifying the significance of Nurse Folusho’s achievement.

The selection process for the DAISY Award began in early February 2025, with nominations pouring in from across Lagos. From a pool of exceptional candidates, five nominees were shortlisted for their outstanding contributions to nursing:

  1. Nurse Ololade Arugbayi – Isolo General Hospital
  2. Nurse Lovethe Amugbaite – Nigeria Navy Hospital, Apapa
  3. Nurse Ayomide Ajani – DUCHESS
  4. Nurse Catherine Atakpu – Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH)
  5. Nurse Folusho Bosede Eniayewun – National Orthopaedic Hospital (Winner)

After a rigorous evaluation, Nurse Folusho Bosede Eniayewun emerged as the winner, celebrated for her unwavering commitment, empathy, and transformative impact on patient care at the National Orthopaedic Hospital.

A Heartwarming Workplace Celebration

The celebration didn’t end at the summit. On Friday, May 23, 2025, Nurse Folusho was honored at her workplace in a joyous ceremony attended by her colleagues, nurse leaders, and hospital management. The event was graced by:

  • Dr. Lawal, Chief Medical Director
  • Nurse Ogundipe, Head of Nursing
  • Nurse Osomonika, NANNM Unit Chairman
  • Nurse Oseni, Provost of the Nursing College
  • Nurse managers and colleagues from the National Orthopaedic Hospital

The workplace celebration was a testament to Nurse Folusho’s profound influence, not only on her patients but also on her peers. Her colleagues lauded her as a role model, whose dedication inspires others to strive for excellence. The live band and media presence added a festive touch, ensuring the moment was captured and shared widely.

The DAISY Award: A Symbol of Nursing Excellence

The DAISY Award, established by the DAISY Foundation (Diseases Attacking the Immune System), honors nurses who exemplify compassion, professionalism, and patient-centered care. Sponsored by NANNNA, the award highlights the global connection within the nursing community, celebrating Nigerian nurses’ contributions both at home and in the diaspora. Nurse Folusho’s recognition underscores the critical role nurses play in transforming lives, particularly in specialized fields like orthopaedics, where empathy and expertise are paramount.

Why Nurses Like Folusho Matter

Nurses are the heartbeat of healthcare, delivering care that goes beyond clinical duties to touch the lives of patients and families. Nurse Folusho’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact one nurse can have—through compassionate care, leadership, and dedication to improving health outcomes. Her recognition at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, a leading institution in Nigeria, highlights the vital role nurses play in specialized healthcare settings, where they provide hope and healing to patients facing complex challenges.

The DAISY Award also shines a light on the importance of recognizing and celebrating nurses. By honoring their contributions, we inspire others to pursue excellence and strengthen the nursing profession across Nigeria and beyond.
