Nigerian Nurse Breaks Record, Becomes First Nurse Appointed Vice Chancellor Of A Nigerian University. A Professor of Nursing Science at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Prof. Omolola Oladunni Irinoye, has been appointed as the Acting Vice Chancellor of Achievers University, Owo, Fellow Nurses Africa can confirm. The Ondo State-based University ratified the appointment of Prof. Irinoye at a Special Council meeting of the institution held on Monday, January 9. Her appointment followed the demise of the former VC, Prof. Samuel Aje, who died on 29th December, 2022. The appointment which takes immediate effect, is for one-year. Speaking with Fellow Nurses Africa correspondence Prof. Irinoye, promised to contribute her quota to the growth of the 15-year-old institution. “I want to thank the Council of Achievers University for the confidence in me to have considered me for this assignment. This is God’s business and assignment and I look forward to a good working relationship with the Council, the Senate, The Management, all Frontline Officers and indeed all staff and students to fulfill God’s purpose for each and everyone and for the purpose of establishment of the institution.” Irinoye, a Professor of Community-Public Health Nursing joined the services of OAU in 1991. Her research areas are in Sexual and Reproductive Health; Adolescents and Women’s Health; Gender and Health as well as Technology in Education and Health Care. Prof. Irinoye had her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Ibadan; her two Master’s Degrees at OAU and University of York, UK; while her Doctor of Philosophy was obtained from the University of Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa.
