HEFAMAA Storm Agege – Cracking Down on Unregistered Clinics in Lagos Communities

The Lagos State Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) has taken its community sensitisation campaign to Agege Local Government.

The town hall meeting urged residents to use only registered healthcare facilities.

Deputy Director Health Educator Mrs Oladunni Omonike represented Permanent Secretary Dr Abiola Idowu.

She explained that registration with HEFAMAA means a facility has qualified staff and meets minimum standards.

Residents were told not to seek care from unregistered places, as these are operated by unqualified people.

The campaign has now reached 15 local governments.

Previous visits received positive responses from communities.

HEFAMAA asked residents to report good practices and violations.

Public tips help the agency identify quackery and untrained staff quickly.

Assistant Director Nursing Services Mrs Florence Odude said inspections cover all facilities, including hospitals, clinics, maternity homes, labs and primary health centres.

Checks include staffing, qualifications, licences and working equipment.

Faulty tools can lead to wrong diagnoses.

Hygiene is also inspected to prevent diseases like malaria.

Unregistered facilities cannot be supported by authorities if problems occur.

Contact details for reporting were distributed on flyers.

Oba Lateef Egbeyemi Oladimeji of Ogba Kingdom gave a goodwill message.

He called the exercise an opportunity for improvement and partnership in healthcare.
