In Entebbe, Uganda, nurse Resty Naluwooza has emerged as a pivotal force in adolescent health shaping futures through evidence-based reproductive care and empathetic counseling.

Trained by The Challenge Initiative (TCI), Resty now leads youth-tailored services in family planning and sexual health in one of Uganda’s fastest-growing cities.

Each day, Resty meets adolescent girls and young women; many grappling with limited health literacy and stigma. She offers confidential counseling on contraception, menstrual health, HIV prevention, and early pregnancy support.

What sets her apart is her rapport: she listens without judgement, follows up consistently, and builds trust in communities where shame often deters young people from seeking care. In addition to clinical care, Resty organizes peer groups and mentoring sessions, encouraging adolescent champions to spread prevention messages among their networks, amplifying her reach beyond the clinic walls.

Her work is addressing gaps in adolescent reproductive health at a critical time. Uganda has one of the youngest populations globally, and while general family planning coverage is improving, teens often remain underserved.

By focusing on youth-friendly services, Resty is helping reduce unintended pregnancies, HIV risk, and maternal health disparities in Entebbe.Despite constrained resources, including staffing shortages and inconsistent medical supplies, Resty persists.

She remains committed to youth health education, leveraging TCI training and community partnerships to bridge trust and access gaps.
