Oyo State College of Nursing Sciences Set to Offer Degree Programmes

In a significant stride for nursing education in Nigeria, the Oyo State College of Nursing Sciences, Eleyele, Ibadan, is preparing to launch degree-awarding programmes. This exciting development was announced by the Provost, Dr. Gbonjubola Owolabi, during a recent alumni event at the college.

Dr. Owolabi revealed that the institution has concluded arrangements to affiliate with the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), a move that will enable students to pursue both bachelor’s and master’s degrees directly from the college. This marks a transformative shift from the traditional diploma model, opening new academic and career pathways for nursing students.

“This affiliation will provide a veritable platform for our students to reach the pinnacle of their careers without leaving the institution,” Dr. Owolabi noted, emphasizing the college’s commitment to producing world-class healthcare professionals through quality education and practical training.

The announcement came as alumni from the 1979-1982 set, known as Set X, donated a 110-inch interactive electronic board and projector to the college as part of their reunion celebration. Additionally, the 1985 set contributed an industrial borehole to support the institution’s infrastructure.

Commissioning the donations, prominent figures such as former Director of Nursing Services Mrs. Arinola and former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health Mrs. Obasa commended the alumni’s generosity and dedication to educational development.

Dr. Owolabi praised the alumni’s efforts, describing their contributions as “encouraging, laudable, commendable, and appreciated.” She also reaffirmed the college’s mission to remain a leader in nursing education in Nigeria, noting that the school has received approvals to run faculties and is awaiting full accreditation from relevant regulatory bodies.

As the college embraces this new chapter, it continues to focus on enhancing both theoretical and hands-on training to prepare future nurses for the evolving healthcare landscape. The launch of degree programmes signifies a pivotal moment in the institution’s journey and highlights the growing recognition of nursing as a dynamic and essential profession.

Stay tuned as Oyo State College of Nursing Sciences breaks new ground in nursing education, empowering the next generation of healthcare heroes.
