The recognition also highlights his role in supporting efforts to ensure that nursing education in Nigeria meets both national and international standards.
Recognition for nursing standards
Standards in nursing education and professional practice are central to the quality of healthcare delivery. Regulatory oversight helps ensure that nurses receive appropriate education, training and professional preparation before entering practice.
The Fatima Umar Foundation’s recognition therefore places emphasis on the importance of maintaining high standards across the nursing education and professional system.
The NMCN said the award reflects appreciation for Ndagi’s dedication to strengthening nursing education and professional standards in Nigeria.
The announcement was signed by Hassan Abdullahi, Head of the NMCN Media Team, on August 22, 2026.
What the award means for nursing in Nigeria
Recognition of regulatory leadership comes at a time when nursing education and professional standards remain important issues within Nigeria’s healthcare sector.
For the nursing profession, maintaining credible educational standards is essential to producing a workforce equipped to provide safe, effective and evidence-based care.
While awards do not replace the need for continued regulatory oversight and measurable improvements, recognition such as this can draw attention to the importance of leadership, professionalism and accountability in strengthening the nursing profession.
The award also provides an opportunity to highlight the wider work required to ensure that Nigerian nurses are trained to standards that are competitive nationally and internationally.
For nurses and nursing students across Nigeria, the development of strong education and regulatory systems remains critical to the future of the profession.
Fellow Nurses Africa will continue to follow developments affecting nursing education, regulation, professional practice and the wider healthcare workforce in Nigeria and across Africa.
