LASUTH Nurse Allegedly Assaulted by Dr Salaudeen, Nurses Forum Demands Probe

A nurse at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) has allegedly been assaulted by a medical doctor during a night shift, according to the Elegant Nurses Forum (ENF), which has demanded an independent investigation into the incident.
The nurse, identified as Nurse Kareem, was reportedly working in the Surgical Emergency Unit when the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, September 26, 2026.
The doctor was identified by the nurses’ organisation as Dr Salaudeen. The allegations were contained in a statement signed by ENF National Coordinator, Nurse Thomas Abiodun Olamide.
What happened at LASUTH?
According to the Elegant Nurses Forum, Nurse Kareem was on night duty on Friday, September 25.
At about 4:00 a.m. on September 26, an emergency patient reportedly arrived at the Surgical Emergency Unit, where Kareem was involved in the triage process.
ENF alleged that an altercation subsequently developed between Nurse Kareem and Dr Salaudeen.
The organisation said Nurse Kareem then left the area and went to the nurses’ room to alert a senior colleague.
However, ENF alleged that the doctor followed her to the nurses’ room, where the confrontation became physical.
The nurses’ organisation alleged that the doctor pushed the nurses’ room door against Kareem.
According to ENF, the nurse sustained bruising to her left hand and later complained of chest and back pain.
She was reportedly admitted for medical treatment and discharged on Monday, September 28.
These details remain allegations from the nurses’ organisation and have not been independently established.
Nurses Forum demands investigation

The Elegant Nurses Forum is calling for what it described as an immediate, impartial and transparent investigation.
The organisation wants investigators to preserve and review available evidence, including:
- CCTV footage from the Surgical Emergency Unit
- CCTV footage from the nurses’ room and surrounding corridors
- Duty rosters
- Emergency and triage records
- Incident reports
- Security logs
- Relevant electronic records
- Statements from nurses, doctors, security personnel and other witnesses
ENF specifically requested the preservation of CCTV footage covering approximately 3:30 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. on September 26, saying such evidence could help establish what happened.
Concerns over the alleged response
The nurses’ organisation has also questioned how the incident was allegedly handled after hospital management was informed.
ENF claimed that the hospital’s nursing union structure became involved after the incident.
It further alleged that while Kareem was receiving treatment, the hospital stopped taking responsibility for her medical bills and that the incident was characterised as “two fighting.”
That account has not been independently verified by FNA.
ENF is asking LASUTH management to clarify whether the incident was characterised in that manner and, if so, the basis for such a conclusion.
The organisation argues that an alleged physical confrontation involving a healthcare worker while performing official duties should be properly investigated as a workplace incident rather than dismissed without a full review of the circumstances.

Hospitals are high-pressure workplaces. Nurses and doctors regularly work under time pressure while caring for patients with urgent or life-threatening conditions.
Disagreements can occur in such environments. However, allegations of physical violence require appropriate reporting, evidence preservation and fair investigation.
LASUTH’s Nursing Department states that it is responsible for providing nursing care across the hospital’s clinical departments, with a focus on patient-centred care, safety and professional standards.
This makes the handling of workplace incidents particularly important. A safe clinical environment is not only about protecting healthcare workers; it also supports effective communication, teamwork and patient care.
Nurses Forum calls for protection of the nurse
ENF has called for Nurse Kareem to be protected against intimidation, retaliation, victimisation or adverse employment action while the matter is being pursued.
The organisation has also called for appropriate medical and psychological support for the nurse and transparency over responsibility for treatment costs connected with the alleged incident.
It further wants witnesses and anyone with relevant evidence to preserve the material and submit it through appropriate channels.
What the Nurses Forum wants from authorities
ENF has called on LASUTH management, the Lagos State Government, the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), professional regulatory bodies and other relevant organisations to ensure that the allegation receives appropriate attention.
The organisation also called for stronger workplace-violence policies and reporting mechanisms within healthcare facilities.
It said there should be clear channels for resolving professional disagreements between medical and nursing leadership, particularly in emergency settings where tensions can escalate quickly.
ENF has also announced plans for a peaceful protest to the Lagos State Governor’s Office within 48 hours, according to the report.
