FUOYE Opens Accredited Part-Time Nursing Degree Programme: Requirements and Who Can Apply
FNA NEWS, 20th Of OCTOBER, 2026
The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has opened applications for its accredited part-time Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.N.Sc.) programme, offering qualified nurses an opportunity to obtain a university degree through a flexible study route.

The university announced the ongoing admission process in a public notice published on its official news platform, directing prospective applicants to its Central Application, Screening, Admission and Payment System (CASAPS) for application details.
The programme is designed primarily for practising nurses who hold recognised nursing qualifications but do not yet have a B.N.Sc. degree.
In an interview published by FUOYE on October 26, 2025, Professor Adelani Tijani, Director of the university’s Institute of Part-Time Studies, explained that the programme was established to address the need for more opportunities for qualified nurses to advance their academic qualifications.
The announcement provides an opportunity for eligible nurses seeking academic progression without necessarily following the conventional full-time university route.
Who Can Apply for FUOYE’s Part-Time Nursing Programme?
According to Professor Tijani, the programme was designed for two categories of nurses.
The first category comprises nurses who have obtained Registered Nurse (RN) qualifications from an institution approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN). Candidates in this category may also possess Registered Midwife (RM) or other relevant NMCN-registered qualifications.
Professor Tijani stated that candidates in this category would spend three years completing the programme.
The second category concerns nurses graduating from Colleges of Nursing with RN, RM or Registered Public Health Nurse (RPHN) qualifications and an HND in Nursing. According to the director, a one-year conversion programme was planned for this category in anticipation of the relevant graduates becoming available from 2026.
However, prospective applicants should confirm whether this conversion route is currently available for the ongoing admission session before applying.
The director also clarified that a first degree in another health-related discipline does not automatically qualify a candidate for admission into the programme.
When asked whether graduates in fields such as anatomy, radiology and medical laboratory science could apply, the university’s representative explained that the programme was intended for qualified nurses rather than graduates of other medical or health-related disciplines.
Applicants should consult the university’s current admission guidelines to confirm the exact qualifications accepted for each route.
Is FUOYE’s Nursing Programme Accredited?

FUOYE’s Nursing Science programme has received full academic accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC).
According to the NUC’s published accreditation report, the university’s Nursing Science programme scored 97 per cent following an assessment conducted from December 12 to 17, 2024. The Commission upheld the recommendation for full accreditation.
FUOYE subsequently described its part-time Nursing programme as newly approved in its October 2025 interview with Professor Tijani.
The programme’s professional recognition is also important to prospective nursing students. The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria regulates nursing education and professional practice in the country, including the approval and accreditation of nursing training institutions and programmes.
Applicants should ensure that the accreditation and approval applicable to the part-time programme cover their intended admission route. They should also confirm any relevant professional registration, student indexing and examination requirements directly with the university and the NMCN.
This distinction matters because academic accreditation and professional regulatory approval serve related but different purposes in nursing education.
Why FUOYE Introduced the Programme

Professor Tijani explained that the programme was established to provide an opportunity for practising nurses who had yet to obtain a B.N.Sc. degree.
He also explained that the choice of Ilupeju-Ekiti as the programme’s location followed a request from the community for the university to establish the part-time nursing degree programme in the town.
According to the director, the initiative also aligned with the developmental plans of the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina.
The programme is intended to expand access to university-level nursing education, particularly for qualified nurses in the Ekiti and neighbouring areas who are seeking further academic development.
Expanding access to degree programmes can support nurses’ educational progression. However, clear admission guidelines, adequate learning facilities and compliance with professional regulatory standards remain essential to ensuring that flexible programmes maintain the expected quality of nursing education.
How to Apply for FUOYE’s Part-Time B.N.Sc. Programme
FUOYE has directed prospective applicants to its official CASAPS admission portal.
Interested candidates can visit https://www.casaps.fuoye.edu.ng/ to access the university’s admission information and application procedures.
Applicants should confirm the current admission session, accepted nursing qualifications, required documents, programme duration, application deadline and approved payment procedures before submitting an application.
The university has also warned prospective students against relying on unverified admission advertisements, flyers, websites or contact details circulating on social media.
Applicants are advised to use official university communication channels and verify all information before making payments or submitting personal details.
What Prospective Applicants Should Know
FUOYE’s part-time B.N.Sc. programme offers a potential academic progression route for nurses who want to obtain a bachelor’s degree.
However, prospective applicants should not assume that every nursing qualification is accepted under the same admission route. The three-year pathway described by the university differs from the proposed one-year conversion arrangement for nurses holding an HND in Nursing.
Candidates should therefore establish which category applies to them and confirm the current availability of that route before paying application fees.
The programme also highlights a wider issue in nursing education: the need to create accessible routes for professional advancement while maintaining strong academic standards and compliance with regulatory requirements.
For qualified nurses seeking to advance their education, the next step is to review the official admission notice, check the current entry requirements and obtain clarification from FUOYE where necessary.
